Over the Wall
French Alps, 2018
I’ve long been charmed by this collection of waterfalls pouring down from one of the many glaciers in the area. The tallest of these cascades drops about 250 feet before striking more limestone ledges and finally rushing through a massive moraine into a torrent that fills the valley with its impressive roar. I usually take my French Alps workshop participants to this viewpoint because of a very photogenic peak nearby that takes a nice shape from this angle, but there are many options on offer besides that peak. At the right time of day and year, the many special features of these mountains come alive with a little raking light to illuminate them.
