Pearly Gates
Dolomites, Italy (2014)
It took me a couple of years to get good conditions during the windows of time when the sun rises over this peak. I first worked out the alignment of the sun with the mountain in 2013, but that year brought lackluster conditions when the alignment was at its best. So I returned in 2014, and on my second day there, I awoke to see this glorious sea of fog and wonderful clouds above it. I loved how this grouping of flowers seemed to be in dialogue with the beautifully isolated peak, basking in the light that finally spilled over the top of the mountain once the sun crested its summit.
