Adventure in Iceland, early September 2020 - Photography Workshops by Erin Babnik

    Iceland Highlands Adventure 2020

    Early September 2020 (12 Days)

    Adventure in Iceland

    Early September 2020

Join us on this unique, immersive, creative expedition as we travel in a caravan of “Monster Trucks” through a variety of magnificent locations in Iceland’s remote Highlands, far away from the crowded hotspots. This will be a rare opportunity to get off of the ring road and deep into Iceland’s expansive volcanic interior to photograph some of the most spectacular, surreal landscapes anywhere in the world, all with a team of five professionals providing guidance and support. You will have the benefit of instruction from three acclaimed professional photographers who place a high value on inspiration and creative expression: Erin Babnik, Alexandre Deschaumes, and Xavier Jamonet. In addition, two Icelandic guides will expertly navigate our team through a vast network of backcountry roads with countless river crossings and rugged terrain ensuring a constant impression of wilderness adventure. One of our guides is a professional cook who will provide full catering of all meals during our time in the highlands.

Our use of huts instead of hotels during the highlands portion of the trip will allow us to concentrate on the most majestic areas of Iceland’s remote interior, deep within the region’s most photogenic reaches, where we will remain for all eight nights spent outside of Reykjavik. Another three nights (one in the beginning and two at the end of the trip) will be spent in a comfortable luxury apartment hotel right in Reykjavik’s charming city center, where we will round out the program with a variety of seminars in a comfortable conference room setting, complete with a projection screen that will provide large visuals for everyone to see well. The opening seminar will include presentations on composition and creativity, and the final seminar will be devoted to post-processing.

After our orientation and opening seminar in Reykjavik, we will enjoy a gourmet welcome dinner and spend our first night in the hotel. Following our first breakfast, we will store any extra luggage at the hotel and will depart for the Highlands, where we will spend a total of nine days and eight consecutive nights. Our accommodations in remote mountain huts will provide round-the-clock access to highly photogenic environments surrounding the huts and to stunning scenery even further afield that we can reach with our trucks. Using the huts as bases of operation, we will plan our outings according to weather conditions in order to maximize the photographic potential of each day. Our rolling creative laboratory will visit mountains clad in vibrant green moss, expansive black sand deserts, colorful geothermal areas, large inland lakes, glacier views, snaking streams, remote cascades, mud tiles and sculpted earth formations, and much more. The trip will conclude with a substantial post-processing seminar at our hotel in Reykjavik, where all three instructors will discuss and demonstrate post-processing options to help you to realize your vision and to refine your craft. On the final evening, we will enjoy a gourmet farewell dinner in Reykjavik, and we will be treated to one last breakfast together on the final morning before the included transfer back to KEF airport.

This all-inclusive trip is designed for people with a spirit of adventure who want an immersive photographic experience in some of the more remote locations of Iceland. Our goal is to provide you with inspiration, with ample time to create in the field, and with dedicated instruction that will help you to take your photography to the next level. The focus is on helping you to create outstanding photographs that speak to your own experiences and interests while immersed in environments that offer immense potential for inspiration.
